Good control of room temperature, both in winter and summer, primarily impacts living comfort. Too high a temperature in the home disrupts comfort, causing drowsiness and fatigue. On the other hand, too low a temperature is also uncomfortable and increases the risk of catching a cold.

According to official data, the ideal temperature in the living room is between 20 and 22 degrees Celsius (68-72°F). Of course, this can vary greatly due to many factors. Depending on household habits, the same temperature can sometimes be too high or too low. This depends on the level of activity, the clothing you wear, and individual needs. For example, older household members generally prefer a room temperature that is one or two degrees higher.

Therefore, the recommended room temperature should not be taken for granted but should be adjusted to suit your needs. One rule that always applies is that the temperature in the bedroom should be lower than in the living room. This applies to nighttime when the temperature should be lowered throughout the home.

The ideal temperature for sleeping is between 16 and 18 degrees Celsius (60-64°F). A lower temperature in the bedroom at night contributes to much better sleep. It is much healthier to add another blanket than to raise the room temperature.

For the bathroom, the opposite is true – the recommended temperature is between 21 and 24 degrees Celsius (70-75°F). This is not only because we are often scantily clad or showering in the bathroom, but also because a higher temperature protects the walls from mold. Due to showering and wet towels, the moisture concentration in the bathroom is higher.

Warmer air can absorb moisture better, reducing the chance of it condensing on the walls, thereby reducing the risk of mold. Additionally, the bathroom should be well-ventilated after each shower by opening a window or turning on a fan.

How to Regulate the Ideal Temperature in Your Home

One of the questions is – how to regulate the desired temperature. Fortunately, today this is much easier than in previous years. If you have your own central heating system, you can maintain the temperature in the living room most easily with a quality thermostat.

It doesn’t have to be the latest smart thermostat, but it’s good to have a quality digital thermostat that measures temperature in precise increments and sends accurate and timely information to the central heating system. If you have a classic old mechanical thermostat with a rotating switch, do not expect the temperature in the home to be ideal; it will oscillate between too low and too high due to rough measurements.
