If applying over old ceramic tiles, the tiles must be firmly attached without any loose pieces.
The surface should also be flat and free of cracks to ensure an even microcement layer. When applied over tiles, such as in a bathroom, microcement creates a smooth, waterproof surface without grout lines, making it easy to maintain. Additionally, a microcement bathroom floor and walls provide an aesthetically appealing monolithic look.
Before applying microcement, a professional will assess the surface to ensure proper adhesion. Sometimes, other materials may be needed to prepare or level the surface. One ideal surface for microcement is drywall, allowing for a concrete-like appearance. However, a layer of joint compound is not recommended as it may lose adhesion when exposed to moisture from the microcement.
