How to Keep Tiles and Grout Looking Like New

Ceramic tiles are easy to maintain and clean, but they still require some occasional attention. Here are a few tricks to keep your tiles and grout looking like they’re brand new

To keep ceramic tiles in your bathroom, both wall and floor, shiny as the first day and long-lasting, it’s essential to wipe them daily with a damp cloth. However, since few are diligent in this, and bathrooms are typically full of moisture and dust, tiles inevitably lose their shine, and grout becomes dark. Of course, there are simple tips to prevent this.

Make a solution from 1/2 cup of white vinegar, 1/2 cup of ammonia, and 1 gallon of warm water.. If you don’t have ammonia, which is often unavailable in pharmacies, dilute vinegar with an equal amount of water, wipe the tiles, and then rub them dry with a cloth. Never use abrasive cleaners on tiles!

To remove limescale and mold from tiles, clean them with a solution made from one capful of bleach and 5 gallons of water. Let it sit in a bucket for 20 minutes before use. Clean floor tiles with a soft brush and wall tiles with a sponge. During these tasks, rubber gloves are a must.

After scrubbing the surfaces, don’t rinse them immediately. Wait 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with plenty of water. Wash again with a mild detergent, rinse again, and wipe with a cotton cloth. If the grout has started to darken, clean it with a toothbrush or the edge of a firm brush dipped in undiluted white vinegar. You can also use a mixture of baking soda with water.

A third option is to scrub the tiles with a mixture of dishwashing liquid and water, but this is a good solution only for tiles and grout that aren’t too dirty. There are also grout markers that can refresh grout, but they are recommended for smaller areas. They are used like regular markers and can be found in hardware stores.
