The POÄNG Armchair: Modern Elegance Redefined
Originally launched as POEM in 1977, the POÄNG armchair has continuously evolved to meet changing lifestyles and design trends. For the Nytillverkad collection, IKEA presents a sleek, low-back version of the POÄNG, designed for dynamic conversations and social interactions. The removal of the headrest and the adjustment of the seating angle create a modern, compact look that encourages an active posture.
Honoring Noboru Nakamura’s Vision
Both the KLIPPAN sofa and the POÄNG armchair were initially designed by Noboru Nakamura and updated by him for the Nytillverkad collection. Nakamura’s ability to distill designs to their essence has inspired generations of designers, and his work continues to influence IKEA’s approach to design.
“KLIPPAN and POÄNG are more than just furniture; they symbolize our commitment to creating designs that improve lives and homes over the years,” says Johan Ejdemo, Global Design Manager at IKEA of Sweden. “At the heart of every IKEA design is our principle of Democratic Design, which seamlessly combines form, function, quality, sustainability, and affordability.
By adapting existing production lines and making thoughtful adjustments, we offer customers new designs, like the POÄNG low-back armchair, at an accessible price point without compromising quality.”
