What type of laminate can be installed on bathroom floors? What are the advantages and disadvantages of laminate floors in the bathroom? How is waterproof laminate installed? Can waterproof laminate withstand underfloor heating?
The bathroom floor is covered with tiles, and that’s the end of the story. Is that really the case? True, this solution is the best and most durable, but it’s always interesting when something is different from the usual. Often in catalogs or TV segments, we see bathrooms with floors covered in wooden substrates. This looks very attractive, especially in the combination of dark wood and white sanitary ware.

Wood in bathrooms is very demanding to maintain, requiring the installation of the highest quality materials, so it’s logical that such images are associated with luxury properties. One solution to achieve this effect is the installation of laminate.
Yes, it’s well known that laminate, which is wood-based, just like parquet, does not tolerate moisture. What many people don’t know is that a large number of laminate manufacturers today offer coverings that are water-resistant and designed for installation in bathrooms.
Laminate – Ideal for Beginner Handymen
Although tiles are the most durable and logical solution, laminate has some advantages. The first we mentioned is aesthetics. The texture that faithfully imitates wood can look very attractive. On the other hand, installing laminate can sometimes be practical. If the bathroom floor is worn out or you simply don’t like it, it can easily be covered with laminate.
This way, the bathroom’s appearance is transformed in one day, without major works, floor breaking, or mess…
Modern laminates, including waterproof ones, are not installed by gluing, but mainly with the so-called “click” system of connecting panels. Thanks to this, the installation process “forgives” beginner mistakes. It’s possible to “play” until everything fits perfectly.
This is not the case with tile installation or any floor coverings that are glued to the substrate.
Opt for Quality Products
It’s very important to emphasize that you need water-resistant laminate when purchasing, as these are different products. The locking system of the panels to prevent water penetration and the composition of the laminate are not the same, and moisture-resistant laminate cannot withstand water spillage or prolonged water retention on the surface.
Quality water-resistant laminates have a non-slip surface when wet, and their composition includes materials that are not prone to mold formation. Therefore, it is advisable to buy higher quality products, especially for bathrooms, as these are usually smaller areas.
Buying cheaper products won’t save you much, and the quality in demanding conditions like those in bathrooms is questionable.
And finally, the most important thing – waterproof laminates can be laid on bathroom floors in combination with underfloor heating.
